The Club

What is Packsaddle Precision?

A private shooting club on a 2,000-acre mountain in the Texas Hill Country, about an hour from Austin. The rifle comes first: the range runs out to roughly 3,750 yards. Members also train in carbine, pistol and fieldcraft, and travel together on hunting trips.

Is the club open to the public?

Packsaddle is a private club, and membership is how you get regular range time. Members can bring guests, non-members can take classes, and groups can book a private FTX or host a match at the club.

Is Packsaddle connected to Hog Heaven and Horseshoe Bay?

Yes. All three are Rhythm Outdoors clubs. Members of Hog Heaven Sporting Club and Horseshoe Bay Sporting Club get 30% off Packsaddle initiation, and the three clubs share one Adventures program.

Membership

How do I become a member?

Start with a membership inquiry. To join, you complete an application, meet with our team in person, and sign the membership agreement, which includes the release and the code of conduct. Members must be legally able to possess a firearm and pass a background check. There is no membership cap or waitlist.

Can I visit before I join?

Yes, by appointment. Email the club to set up a visit. Every new member also tours the property and meets with our team before joining.

What plans do you offer?

Four: Under 30, Individual, Family, and Corporate. Every plan includes the whole club; the plans differ only in who they cover. Prices are on the Membership page.

Who does the Family plan cover?

Your spouse or domestic partner and your children through age 22, including stepchildren and adopted children. Family members 18 and older can come out on their own.

What happens when an Under 30 member turns 30?

You move to the regular monthly dues for the plan you choose, Individual or Family, starting the month after your 30th birthday. You don’t pay another initiation fee.

What does membership include?

Unlimited access during Lodge hours to the one-mile, high-angle and dynamic ranges, plus ELR events, held about once a month, once you pass the yearly assessment. Membership also covers shooting deck reservations, classes taught by Packsaddle instructors, member-led practice sessions, manufacturer demo days, the Lodge with free drinks at the bar, and member rates on private lessons. The full list is on the Membership page.

What costs extra?

Night shoots are paid events for everyone, members included. Courses with guest instructors, matches and competitions, and private group events are also priced separately.

Are there initiation discounts?

Yes. Military, law enforcement and veterans get 10% off initiation. Members of Horseshoe Bay Sporting Club, Hog Heaven Sporting Club and Staccato Ranch get 30% off. Qualify for both and they stack to 40%.

Discounts apply to initiation only, on the Individual and Family plans, and eligibility is verified at enrollment.

Is there a contract or minimum term?

There is no minimum term. After a one-time initiation fee, membership runs month to month. Dues are billed on the 1st of each month, and if you join partway through a month, your first month is prorated. You can also prepay a full year at the regular monthly rate.

Initiation and dues are subject to 8.25% Texas sales tax. Members keep a credit card on file for dues and other charges.

How do I cancel my membership?

Email comms@packsaddleprecision.com. Your membership ends 30 days after we receive your notice. The initiation fee and any dues already paid are not refunded. If you leave in good standing and rejoin later, you won’t pay initiation again.

Can I pause my membership?

Only for military orders. Show us your orders, and dues stop until you return from service.

Can I bring guests?

Yes, as many different guests as you like. A guest is anyone on the property who isn’t a member, whether or not they shoot. On an Individual plan, that includes your family.

The guest fee is $50 plus tax per guest, per day. If you bring six or more guests in one day, it is $75 plus tax for every guest in the party. Guests 12 and under are free but count toward the party size. Guests who have served in the military or law enforcement get 10% off with proof of their own service.

Each guest can visit up to four times a calendar year, and the count resets January 1. Groups of more than nine guests need to be scheduled ahead. Every guest shows a photo ID at the Lodge and has a signed release on file before entering; a parent or guardian signs for anyone 17 and under. Guests can’t use ELR, night shoots or low-light programs without our approval and a passed assessment. Members are responsible for their guests’ conduct, fees and any damage.

Training & Classes

Do I need to be a member to take a class?

No. Classes are open to members and non-members. Some offerings are for members only, and members book first.

Are classes included with membership?

Classes taught by Packsaddle instructors, including specialty classes, are included with membership; non-members pay to attend. Classes taught by guest instructors cost extra for everyone, members included. Manufacturer demo days are free for members, and non-members pay a fee set for each event. Classes are subject to sales tax.

Where do I start?

Every track starts with a fundamentals course. For rifle, that is Intro to Precision Rifle, then Precision Rifle 2 and Precision Rifle 3. Pistol and carbine starts with Intro to Carbine. Fieldcraft covers map reading, big game, and butchering and meat care. See all three tracks on the Education page.

Do I need my own rifle for a class?

No. Firearms and gear for our courses are available to rent at the Lodge. We encourage you to bring your own rifle and gear when you can, so you train on the equipment you will actually use. Explosive, armor-piercing and tracer rounds are not allowed on any range.

Who teaches the classes?

Instruction is led by Army Special Forces and Ranger veterans. You can meet the instructors on the Education page.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. Private lessons are $200 an hour for members. The walk-in rate is $300 an hour.

Where do I find class dates?

Class dates are posted on the Events Calendar as they are set.

What if I need to cancel a class or event?

Classes, private lessons, night shoots and FTXs are fully refunded if you cancel at least 48 hours before the start time. Refunds for hosted matches are set by each match’s director.

We make every effort to hold events in any weather. If conditions are too severe, we reschedule first; if we can’t, you get a full refund. We may also cancel or reschedule ELR events and night shoots for safety, staffing or operational reasons.

The Range & the Lodge

What can I shoot at Packsaddle?

The range has five disciplines. One Mile is for long-range precision. High Angle uses the mountain’s elevation for shots you cannot practice on flat ground. Dynamic is pistol and carbine. ELR runs out to roughly 3,750 yards, with downrange cameras and electronic hit indicators, at scheduled events about once a month. Night covers suppressed, night vision and thermal work at scheduled night shoots. ELR and night shoots require the yearly assessment.

When can members shoot?

During Lodge hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM. Member gate codes and windshield stickers work only during those hours, and members need to be off the property by 6:30 PM unless an event is scheduled.

Daytime shooting ends at sundown. After dark, shooting happens only at scheduled night shoots, with an instructor or range safety officer on the line.

Is there a minimum age to shoot?

No. Shooters of any age are welcome, including kids learning to shoot. Anyone under 18 must be directly supervised by an adult in their party at all times, including while shooting, and a parent or guardian signs their release. A Packsaddle instructor or range safety officer is at every shooting position whenever shooters are present.

What is the marksmanship and weapons assessment?

A yearly, hands-on check of your gun handling and marksmanship, run by our instructors. You need to pass it before you shoot ELR, night shoots, or any low-light program. It is free for members, takes no more than an hour, and is scheduled with the club. We may retest at any time.

If you hold a certificate from a military or law enforcement sniper school, or a certified civilian equivalent, you can skip the intro courses and go straight to the assessment.

How do night shoots work?

Night shoots are for members who have passed the yearly assessment. They are priced separately, members included, and run about once a month with an instructor or range safety officer on the line. Dates and prices are posted on the Events Calendar.

Night vision rents for $250 and thermal for $150 per unit, for each day or night. We recommend bringing your own when you can, so you train on the gear you will actually use. If you bring a suppressor, you are responsible for possessing it lawfully.

Can I buy ammunition at the club?

Yes. Ammunition is sold at the Lodge. Email the club to check which calibers are in stock.

Is there food and water at the range?

Yes. On shooting days we keep coolers stocked with ice and water, and snacks and drinks on hand. You’re welcome to bring your own food or cooler too. In hot months, drink water throughout the day.

What is the Lodge?

The Lodge is built on the firing line. Two covered shooting decks, about 2,500 square feet across two levels, face straight down the main range. Behind them, about 3,000 square feet holds a lounge and bar, two vaults, two prep rooms, restrooms, and outdoor showers.

What is the club’s alcohol and drug policy?

Drinks at the Lodge bar are free for members, as a member perk. Outside alcohol isn’t allowed. At some hosted events, a licensed event organizer may sell alcohol.

No alcohol is allowed on any range, deck or shooting position. Once you’ve had a drink, you’re done shooting for the day, and no one may handle a firearm while impaired by any drug or medication. Staff will remove anyone they believe is impaired.

Is there medical help on site?

Yes. Trained medical staff are on site at all times. Every vehicle and main shooting location carries a med bag with tourniquets, hemostatic dressings, chest seals and other trauma supplies, and every range has a copy of our medical plan.

The nearest medical center, Baylor Scott & White, is about 16 miles away, roughly 15 minutes by car, and helicopter landing zones are set up across the property. Because the property is remote, emergency response can take longer. In an emergency, call 911 first, then alert Lodge staff.

Can someone with limited mobility shoot at Packsaddle?

Yes. Much of the property is steep and rough, so let us know before your visit and our team will plan ahead with you.

Groups & Hosting

Can I bring my team or company?

Yes, through an FTX (field training exercise): private, multi-day training built around one group and what it wants to accomplish. Choose Pistol & Carbine (four days), Precision Rifle (four days), the Hunter Work-Up (two days), or a custom FTX. Every FTX includes rooms and meals at Horseshoe Bay Resort.

How much does an FTX cost?

Each FTX is built around your group, so price, group size and any experience requirements are set with you when we plan it. Firearms are available to rent for the training.

Can I sign up for an FTX on my own?

No. FTXs are for groups only. Individuals train through our classes and membership.

Can I host a match or teach a course at Packsaddle?

Yes. Packsaddle hosts precision rifle matches and guest instructors teaching their own courses. We provide the range, the Lodge as your match HQ or classroom, and a room block at Horseshoe Bay Resort. Range fees and insurance requirements are set with each match director. We suggest booking about a year out. See Hosting for details.

Adventures

Does the club run hunting trips?

Yes. Adventures are Rhythm Outdoors trips shared across all three clubs and open to members and their guests. The club vets the outfitters, books the travel, lodging and licenses, and sends a club leader on every trip.

Can members hunt on the property?

Not on a regular basis. Hunting on the Packsaddle property happens only at guided member hunts we host, for hog and aoudad. Spots are limited and depend on the wildlife we find before each hunt, and pricing matches our Adventures hunts. For other hunting, join a trip through Adventures.

What do I need before a rifle trip?

Complete Intro to Precision Rifle and Precision Rifle 2, or pass a skills test, and you are cleared for the club’s rifle hunts and trips.

Getting Here

Where is Packsaddle?

What is the closest airport?

Horseshoe Bay Resort Airport (KDZB), about twenty minutes from the range. Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) is about an hour and fifteen minutes away.

Where should I stay?
